Grade 5 Unit of Inquiry Site

Grade 5 Teachers & Students  //  For Unit Two,

We're inquiring into how unequal or irresponsible distribution or sharing of finite natural resources can lead to conflict, and how we can resolve and manage conflict.

We need to understand first of all how all resources and humans are all connected, what the different perspectives are about sharing, and how we can be responsible for one another.

Thanks for sharing your ideas, perspectives, and new understanding!

Maybe the government doesn't realize what is happening with people not getting food

Maybe the government is doing what they can. Sometimes even if the government knows that people are in a bad situation, there may not be enough money to go around to help everyone.

The basic function of a government is to provide for the common welfare of all of its people. Sometimes when the government looks at the larger picture of all of the challenges facing its people, it must decide which efforts it should undertake and which it should leave to its citizens to handle as individuals or in private groups or organizations. Famine sometimes may seem to be an issue that the government should leave to its compassionate citizens and even compassionate organizations from outside of the country to tackle. Governments should do more. However, when there is a lack of government support, it is up to caring and responsible citizens, such as you and I, to do what we can to help.
